My love of sewing began back in secondary school, when I started making clothes for myself — experimenting with fabrics, perfecting patterns, and discovering the joy of wearing something truly unique. Years later, as a mother of five, that passion naturally turned toward creating practical, functional clothes for my own children.
Four years ago, I decided to share these tried-and-tested designs with other families, and Penelope Jane was born.
Every item in my shop is handmade by me, in my Nottingham studio, using patterns that have been refined on my own children over years of real-world wear. I'm especially proud of my dungarees — featuring machine-embroidered bibs with contrasting pockets and turn-ups. Thoughtful details, extra buttons, adjustable straps and generous hems let these pieces grow with your child, season after season.
Many fabrics I use are sourced as a roll end — material rescued from landfill and given a much better life. Because each roll is finite, every Penelope Jane range is genuinely limited edition. When the fabric is gone, that design is gone for good. No reprints, no restocks. Just something beautiful, made once, made well.
At Penelope Jane, my philosophy is simple: clothes that kids want to wear — comfortable, durable, sustainable and made with love. Clothes worthy of being handed down.
Thank you for supporting my small business and allowing my creations to become part of your family's story.
With love, Penelope Jane 🌸
